The purpose behind our bar association is to promote efficient and professional representation of criminal defendants throughout Cook and collar counties. Whats New
Conflict Cases Referral Program
The WCDBA and the Circuit Court of Cook County have established a program by which the court refers cases in which a conflict with the Public Defender's Office exists, a qualified, pre-screened, WCDBA member will accept appointment from the court.

Maritza Martinez defends clients in federal and state court felony and misdemeanor cases, as well as administrative proceedings. She represents plaintiffs in civil rights and intentional torts claims, having gained an extensive civil rights background from her prior defense of municipal employees in litigation alleging civil rights and constitutional violations, discrimination, wrongful death and intentional torts. Maritza additionally serves as a Commissioner at the Illinois Court of Claims, conducting trials, taking evidence and making confidential recommendations to the Illinois Court of Claims Judges as to the dispositions of monetary claims, other than workers' compensation claims, made against the state of Illinois. She also serves as an Inquiry Board and Oversight Committee Member of the Illinois Attorney Registration & Disciplinary Commission where she determines whether sufficient evidence exists in investigations alleging misconduct against Illinois attorneys. Maritza volunteers as a mentor to Loyola University of Chicago School of Law students; at the YMCA as a Level II Swimming Official, and at ROW, a rowing team for breast cancer survivors. |
