About the WCDBA

Welcome to the Women's Criminal Defense Bar Association!

The function of the WCDBA shall include the following: to promote and advance the position of women criminal defense attorneys engaged in the private practice of law; to foster more open dialogue and communication among women criminal defense attorneys engaged in the private practice of law; and to encourage more active participation relative to the status of women and opportunities available to women criminal attorneys engaged in the private practice of law.

Membership shall be open to persons who have graduated from an accredited law school and licensed to practice in the State of Illinois. No person shall be excluded from membership because of race, color, sex, age, religion, or national origin. Associate membership shall be open to any law student who attends an accredited law school.

The officers of the WCDBA shall be a president, a first vice-president, a second vice-president, a secretary, and a treasurer. The president is charged with the duty of supervising all functions of the WCDBA, subject to the instructions of the full membership. The president shall preside at all general meetings of the WCDBA and be an ex officio member of the committees. The first and second vice-presidents shall perform the duties of the president in the president's absence and perform such other functions as the president may from time to time assign. The secretary shall conduct the correspondence o f the WCDBA, issues notices, keep minutes of all meetings of the WCDBA and perform such other functions as the president may from time to time assign. The treasurer shall collect all membership dues and receive any other monies on behalf of the WCDBA; shall be the custodian thereof; shall cause them to be deposited in a bank designated by the Board of Directors; and shall be responsible for disbursement of funds as authorized by the Board. The treasurer shall make periodic reports to the WCDBA, make an annual report to the WCDBA, and maintain a list of members in good standing.
